We provide comprehensive eye exams, diagnosis and treat all major eye diseases and injuries, and fill eye glass and contact lens prescriptions. Our optical boutique has a wide variety of designer frames which our expert eye care staff will assist you with. As contact lens specialists, our experienced eye doctors fit contact lenses of all types, including tinted lenses, disposable daily wear lenses, lenses for astigmatism, bifocal and trifocal lenses, and even newly developed lenses for Corneal Refractive Therapy.

Gary L. Barker, O.D., F.A.A.O.

Dr. Gary Barker is a Board Certified Optometric Physician. He received his Bachelor of Science in Biology, with Departmental Honors in Biology, at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida. He earned his Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Houston College of Optometry, where he was awarded the Pediatric Clinician of the Year award. After graduation from UHCO, Dr. Barker served as a Research Optometrist at the University of Texas Medical Science Center-Houston in the Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy Study (ETDRS), one of the first studies of laser treatment of diabetic eye disease. He then returned to his native state of Florida, where along with his wife, Dr. Sandra Barker, he co-founded the Eye Associates of Winter Park in 1985.

Dr. Barker examines the pediatric patients of the practice. He is well known for his patience, compassion, and warmth with young children, many of whom have declared that Dr. Barker is “fun to see”!

Although Dr. Barker’s specialty is pediatric optometry, he provides medical eye care for patients of all ages, including diabetic patients, patients with glaucoma, and patients with other ocular and systemic diseases.

Dr. Barker is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, a member of the Central Florida Society of Optometric Physicians, the Florida Optometric Association, and the American Optometric Association. He is a past President of the Florida Optometric Association. Well-respected by his peers, Dr. Barker is a past recipient of the Florida Optometrist of the Year. Dr. Barker is an active member of his church, currently serving as a member of the Diaconate. He and his wife, Dr. Sandra Barker, are the proud parents of their son, who is currently a college junior. In their spare time, Dr. Barker and his wife love to travel.

Sandra H. Barker, O.D., F.A.A.O.

Dr. Sandra Barker is a Board Certified Optometric Physician. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Biology with Honors from the University of Texas at Austin. She received her Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Houston College of Optometry. After completing her internship in the Optometry/Ophthalmology Service at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., Dr. Barker practiced for two years in Houston prior to co-founding Eye Associates of Winter Park with her husband, Dr. Gary Barker, in 1985.

While Dr. Barker sees patients of all ages for comprehensive eye care, her area of expertise is specialty contact lenses including Corneal Refractive Therapy and contact lenses for patients with diseased corneas such as keratoconus or post-refractive surgery complications.

Dr. Barker is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, a member of the Central Florida Society of Optometric Physicians, the Florida Optometric Association, and the American Optometric Association.

A leader in her community, Dr. Barker served on the Board of Directors of the Greater Seminole Chamber of Commerce, the Private Industry Council of Seminole, the Board of Trustees of the public broadcasting station WMFE and the Board of Excel Alternatives, Inc. a private nonprofit alternative school. She currently serves on the WMFE Development Committee, and on the Board of The Jeremiah Project, a non-profit arts & technology enrichment program for at-risk kids in Central Florida.

Dr. Barker is very active in her church, where she has chaired many Boards in past years. She is currently Chairman of the Board of Christian Education at the church. She and her husband, Dr. Gary Barker, are the proud parents of their son, who is currently a college junior. In their spare time, Dr. Barker and her husband enjoy travel.

Dr. Marguerite Ball-Thomas, Eye Doctor in Winter Park FL

Marguerite Ball-Thomas, O.D., F.A.A.O.

Dr. Marguerite Ball-Thomas is a Board Certified Optometric Physician. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Stetson University, followed by her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee. After graduation, Dr. Ball-Thomas served as a staff optometrist at the world-renowned Bascom Palmer Eye Institute at the University of Miami School of Medicine, where she participated in several national ocular disease studies and served in the position of Neuro-ophthalmology Clinical Supervisor her remaining two years. After working at Bascom Palmer for four years, Dr. Ball-Thomas returned to her hometown of Winter Park in 1994 to join the Eye Associates of Winter Park. Although she provides personalized comprehensive family eye care to patients of all ages, Dr. Ball-Thomas’ main emphasis is the diagnosis and management of ocular disease including glaucoma, cataracts, diabetic eye disease, and macular degeneration.

Dr. Ball-Thomas is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, a member of the Central Florida Society of Optometric Physicians, the Florida Optometric Association, and the American Optometric Association. She has lectured nationwide on a multitude of topics including ocular oncology, headaches, ocular complications of HIV/AIDS, neuro-ophthalmology, cataracts, and glaucoma. She has also served as the chief consultant for the Florida Optometric Licensure Examination Committee, an advisory committee to the Florida Board of Optometry.

Currently, Dr. Ball-Thomas serves with the Volunteer Optometric Service to Humanity (VOSH), traveling abroad to impoverished countries to provide medical eye care and has volunteered her time locally at the Coalition for the Homeless. Dr. Ball-Thomas is active in her church, serving both as an elder as well as in the music ministry as an instrumentalist and vocalist. She is a past president and current member of the Casselberry Rotary Club for over 20 years and is a member of the Orlando Galloway Running group, completing several half and full marathons for charities. Dr. Ball-Thomas enjoys spending time with her husband and son, especially taking advantage of many outdoor travel adventures such as whitewater rafting, snow skiing, and cycling.

Brad S. Giedd, O.D., F.A.A.O.

Dr. Brad Giedd is a Board Certified Optometric Physician. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Central Florida, graduating Summa Cum Laude. After deciding on a career change, he attended the Nova Southeastern University of College of Optometry where he gained specialty training in ocular pathology at the world-renowned Bascom Palmer Eye Institute at the University of Miami School of Medicine and at the West Palm Beach VA Hospital. Dr. Giedd was awarded his Doctor of Optometry degree from NSU College of Optometry, achieving the honor of class Valedictorian. Desiring more specialty training, he completed an Advanced Practice Fellowship in Cornea and Contact Lenses and earned a Master’s Degree in Physiological Optics from The Ohio State University College of Optometry.

After joining the Eye Associates of Winter Park, Dr. Giedd established a specialty contact lens and clinical research practice that focuses on new contact lens materials and designs.

Dr. Giedd is a current Trustee and Past President of the Central Florida Society of Optometric Physicians, a member of the Florida Optometric Association, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry. Dr. Giedd serves on the Board of Directors of the Altamonte Springs Rotary Club and is active in his church, Annunciation Catholic Church in Altamonte Springs. With three very active school-aged children, Dr. Giedd and his wife Kerry enjoy travelling and spending their limited leisure time at the beach.
